Nobody Likes Me

About the Book

‘Nobody Likes Me’ is a story inspired by a real day in the life of a feisty young girl who has been overlooked one time too many and is feeling rejected.  It is also about her sympathetic mother who does her best to help the child see things in a different light. I think we can all relate to not being paid the full amount of attention we want or perhaps even need, but may sometimes not realize how much we are cared for by others. I hope you will all enjoy the relatable story, happy ending, and charming illustrations!

The illustrations in ‘Nobody Likes Me’ are truly magnificent and add so much to the story. Here are a few samples of internal pages:

Here are our Amazon.com reviews:

“I could have used this book when I was a child. At one point I got a chill up my spine while I was reading it. The illustrations complement the text well, and I found myself able to relate to the main character’s feelings and point-of-view. Children can be sensitive, and this book helps them understand they are dearly loved, whether they feel like they are or not. The book also reminds adults that our actions can leave an indelible impression on young minds, and we ought to be thoughtful in how we interact with them. I enjoyed this book and hope to see more like it.”

“I just bought this book for my daughter. My husband and I have read it over and over again. She loves it! After my husband reads it she brings the book right over to me and wants to hear it again. I think she can identify with people sometimes being “too busy” to hear her out. She also loves books that rhyme. I think any little girl would love this story. The illustrations are great as well.”

“I just love this book. It tells a wonderful story about siblings that I (as a parent) can relate to so well. The characters are adorable – and my daughter loves to read it over and over. Definitely a MUST HAVE book!”

“What a great book! My daughter loves it so much. Especially the part about the baby sister. The illustrations are wonderful with great characters and lots of bright colors. I think lots of kids (as well as their parents) can relate to the story. Wonderful!”

“This book was a very pleasant surprise. It touches on all sorts of 3-5 year old insecurities. I read it to my 4 year old daughter often, and after the birth of her little sister she could easily identify with the main character’s need for attention. The book is great at illustrating to even the neediest of children that while we cannot always focus just on them, they are always being heard and seen and most importantly loved.”

“I purchased this book in paperback for my three year-old daughter. Both she and my six year-old son love it! In fact, it is their favorite book on their bookshelf. This is a lovely story about a little girl, who after many attempts to get attention, feels like no one likes her. Her mother explains to her, in a very loving manner, that even though people may be busy and may not immediately respond, that she is incredibly loved. I think all children can relate to the little girl in the book as I don’t think there is a child out there that doesn’t sometimes feel unappreciated and unnoticed. I highly recommend purchasing this book.”

I was excited to meet Cynthia Dekel Author of Nobody Likes Me at the Miami Book Fair.

Nobody Likes Me is a story of a young child who thinks she is been overlooked by everybody including her parents. But her mother had to reassure her that “Sometimes people we love have things they must do. That doesn’t mean they don’t think the world of you!” It also goes on to say that “Everybody loves you!” This book was beautifully illustrated by Aki Fukuoka.

This book is a must have for every little girl. It will help them know that they are loved no matter what. I love this book and highly recommend this to parents.

So I LOVE this book!!! The story is beautiful and so well written for a young child to understand. I think it will also make some adults think about the way they talk to their kids and how their kids may hear what is being said. The illustrations are amazing. It is the perfect story to teach families how important it is to take time to listen to one another.
